Introduction

Hi, I’m Si. I’m not an economist.

I am, however, very interested in if it’s possible to predict an incoming recession.

Let me explain.

I’m a lucky person, born right time right place, bought an apartment and a few years later sold it for a bunch more that I bought it for (pandemic boom). It’s left me with a sum of money I want to invest.

But I’m nervous to.

We’re not talking about big money here, but to me it’s a lot. And I didn’t want to stick it into the stock market as it tops out, or put a deposit on a house before next door comes on the market for half the price, or buy some bitcoin to see it go down to $8,000 or etc.

And yes I’ve heard it’s all about time in the market not timing the market but if there is a recession on the way, I want to invest my money at the right time.

So I started learning about macro economics and economic cycles.

It turns out there are a lot of smart people who disagree with a lot of things to do with economics, and predicting a recession is tough.

So I thought it might be useful to amalgamate all of the most well known recession predictors into one place. A meta predictor, if you like.

I’ll let the economists do what they truly believe is the right things and take a birds eye view of the total.

This is what you can expect from the recession dashboard; a high level view of various predictors of an incoming recession.

I’ll do my best to explain each predictor/ indicator and over time will build up the knowledge base with all things macro, to add context to the dashboard.

What you will not find here is any financial advise or second order thinking of any sort. I’m still not sure what the best things to invest in are, if and when everything bottoms. If you do, perhaps you could get in touch.

Finally, just in case he ever finds his way onto this website, I’d like to say a big thank you to TXMC and his channel Alpha Beta Soup, for showing me the entrance to this rabbit hole.
